And what an epic ride it turned out to be!
Last weekend, when we caught the train, VV said she's like to ride her bike to go and see 'the gold lady' again. So, this afternoon, to allow her mother to have a sleep and try and beat her cold, I suggested we could go for a ride.
She was attached via the TrailGator to get there. But once there, I asked if she'd like to have a ride solo. After a few attempts, she started by herself and she was off...
She got a lot of comments on the way, as the Maribyrnong shared path is well trafficked by walkers and cyclists alike. Each time she rang her bell upon approach, and said thankyou as she passed them. I kept waiting for her to stop, but she didn't. We were coming up to a bridge over the artificial(ish) lake at Edgewater. So, I asked her if she wanted to ride over it. She did... but she wanted me to go first. Hmm... OK, so I told her she'd have to ride as quickly as she could, and then keep pushing. I picked a point, and said "GO! Pedal pedal, pedal..." and told her I was going to pass her on her right, and kept telling her to pedal.
She made it.
Just.
I think that killed her legs for the rest of the ride. We kept riding until the path offered a place for an easy turnaround. Which she took, and started back. The headwind was tough for her, but she almost made it to the top of the bridge on the return (me behind her should she need 'catching').
500m on and we had a little rest, before attaching her back on and riding home.
"Daddy, I've had a BIG day. I think I need to go to bed now".
